Mentoring
Our mentors have been key to our success since our rookie year. Mentoring is fundamental to the success of the FIRST
program, providing both essential technical guidance and know-how and serving as role models for the students. A description of how mentoring works on Team 1719 is available in our mentoring guide.
2008 Technical Mentors
- Mike Dennis -- When he's not helping to run Team 1719 and serving as the programming mentor, Mike works as a software and database developer. His formal education is in mathematics, and he has been with Team 1719 for 3 years. Mike is also the team liason to the Baltimore Area Alliance.
- Bruce Woodey--Bruce currently works with Advanced Design Products, Inc. as a welding engineer, coaxing 6-axis welding robots to perform high-precision welding operations. This year he built our robot cart for us and worked with the device team on building the forklift mechanism.
2008 Non-Engineering Mentors
- Dorienne Plait-- Dori is a senior at Towson University. As a high school student Dori was an active member on Team 007, and was Vice President of Business in the 2006 season. She became involved with Team 1719 in its rookie year, and says she continues to work with the team “because I saw the team evolve from the beginning, and I would love to watch this team grow and become all it can be.” Dori is assisting the team in developing its business plan and helping the students with their Awards submissions, and also serves on the Administrative Council./li>
- Bob Carter -- As the Park School faculty representative for Team 1719, Mr. Carter has played a vital role in making sure the school facilities are open and available during the odd hours of the build season. His quiet wisdom and encouragement have provided the team with a tremendous source of support.
